Leeds United and Burnley played out a bore-draw at Turf Moor on Monday night as the two promotion rivals kept their cards close to their chest across the Pennines.
After Sheffield United and Sunderland dropped points over the weekend, Monday night handed both Leeds and Burnley the chance to make real strides in the race for automatic promotion come May.
But, the two sides could not find the breakthrough. There was only one shot on target during the match and it came in the 88th minute when Dan James flashed an effort at goal, tipped over by James Trafford.
Frustration was evident among a Leeds attack that are so used to plenty of chances to score goals. Manor Solomon was booked in the first half due to dissent while James’ endeavour went unrewarded last night.

Leeds looked most-dangerous on the right flank. Jayden Bogle has become one of Leeds’ best players in recent weeks and that proved to be the case last night again, linking up superbly with James out wide.
On the 23rd minute, Brenden Aaronson came forward with the ball and had the chance to play James in. But instead, he laid it wide to Bogle who was then fouled – and Dorigo spotted James showing frustration.
Indeed, co-commentator Dorigo said on LUTV’s live coverage of the game that James was annoyed with Aaronson for not giving him the ball and even spotted James having a “word” with his Leeds teammate.
“James makes a brilliant run, timed to perfection. Aaronson took an extra touch and played it to Bogle. Yes, we got a free-kick but James was frustrated there and had a word with his teammate for next time.”

Aaronson’s form has dipped over the last few weeks. A confidence player, he looks short of self-belief with the USA star not short of criticism. Daniel Farke has made it clear he wants a new no.10 at Leeds.
One to provide competition for Aaronson, who despite his inconsistent form has started 27 games in a row for Leeds. On Monday, Leeds were linked with a shock move for Besiktas’ Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Farke hinted that a new signing could be imminent after the 0-0 draw with Burnley and given he is keen to sign a new no.10, there could be some new competition for Aaronson to deal with in the coming days.
