Connor Roberts claims £15m Leeds teammate is always getting so much stick from all his teammates

Connor Roberts will have found life easy to settle into at Leeds United due to the amount of Wales internationals already at the club.

Roberts made the deadline day loan switch from Burnley and scored his first goal for the club in last Friday’s superb comeback victory over table-topping Leicester City.

The 28-year-old was actually Leeds’ only signing of the January window but they were seemingly linked with the entirety of Rob Page’s squad, including David Brooks, Ben Davies, Kieffer Moore, Chris Mepham and Neco Williams.

In Ethan Ampadu, Dan James, Joe Rodon, Leeds already had three Wales internationals that Roberts knows well, particularly the latter two, having also played alongside them for Swansea City.

Rodon is the one he is said to be closest to and speaking on the latest episode of the Official Leeds United Podcast, Roberts shed some light into the pair’s relationship, joking that the 26-year-old is always on the end of ‘pelters’ in the dressing room from teammates at club and international level.

Roberts sheds light on Rodon relationship

He said: “He is a big strong centre-back and he does what he does but he does get pelters from everyone to be honest. Even when we go away with Wales, Ben Davies, Danny Ward, they are all on him and we’re all on him to be honest.”

Once interest broke of Leeds’ interest in Roberts it became clear pretty quickly that it was a move he wanted to make, and the Welsh contingent is likely to have been a big part of that.

It was also evident just how close Roberts and Rodon are off the pitch when the latter’s brother Sam began tweeting about the proposed transfer before it had even been completed.

Roberts has spoken before about the chemistry and understanding they both have with each other on the pitch, and that is likely to stem from their relationship off it.

These hilarious recent comments about the £15m man Rodon also shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise, either, considering some of the stick Ampadu and James gave him when they recorded an episode on the podcast together.
