Bristol City manager Liam Manning says whether or not Leeds United are the best team he’s faced this season

Leeds United cruised to victory against Bristol City on Monday night, as the players celebrated promotion in front of a noisy Elland Road crowd.

Leeds United beat Bristol City 4-0 on Monday thanks to goals from Ao Tanaka, Wilfried Gnonto, and two from Largie Ramazani, keeping Daniel Farke’s side in 1st place of the Championship table going into their final game of the season.

Burnley in 2nd are level on 97 points. Leeds play Plymouth Argyle away from home on Saturday whilst Burnley host Millwall in what has become the Championship title-decider.

A Championship title win would be a third for Farke as a manager. But despite his successes this season there’s been uncertainty surrounding his future at the club with suggestions that Farke could be sacked ahead of the summer.

Club chairman Paraag Marathe is flying in for talks with Farke following the conclusion of the 2024/25 season, and it’s looking increasingly uncertain whether or not Farke stays, despite recent reports that Farke was set to stay at Leeds United.

But if there was ever an advertisement for Marathe and Leeds United to continue with Farke going into next season, it was on Monday. The Whites breezed past a very strong Bristol City side who remain in 5th place of the table, which would’ve been difficult to do with promotion already in the bag.

Farke kept his players fired up despite having promotion in the bag and Leeds thumped Bristol City in style. So much so that after the game, Robin boss Liam Manning admitted that Leeds United are the best team his side have faced this season.

“I think they’re the best team we’ve played this season, deserved winners obviously tonight, and have promotion,” Manning said, whose Bristol City side held Leeds to a 0-0 draw at Ashton Gate earlier in the campaign.

Even before the game Manning was showing that he’s a class act. Manning gave his verdict on the Farke rumours and he sided with the Leeds United boss, saying how it’s incredible that a manager can win promotion and then be faced with the axe.

And in Monday night’s game about 90 seconds before full-time, Manning embraced Farke and congratulated him and Leeds United on winning the game and on winning promotion, once again showing that the Robins boss is a very likeable character.

But focus at Elland Road will quickly turn to Plymouth Argyle. They’re fighting for survival in the Championship and so they too have a lot to play for on Saturday, in what is a 12:30pm kick off.
