Leeds United have more to do in the transfer market, with the 49ers, Adam Underwood, Robbie Evans, Daniel Farke and co. hard at work.
With the 49ers at the helm, Leeds United will hope they can consolidate their place in the Premier League by acquitting themselves in a more sensible manner in the market than they did in their previous stint at the level.
So far, the transfer strategy has focused on taller and more physically imposing players, with the club knowing survival is not guaranteed, but identifying this strategy as the best chance of getting there.
Leeds are having to prioritise Premier League physicality via having superior size, athleticism, and energy off the ball; each of the six signings so far has at least two of those attributes, too.
Leeds’ Premier League team is already significantly taller than last season’s in the Championship. However, it will take more than just that to remain a top flight team for this time next year.
Graham Smyth explains how Adam Underwood is working with Daniel Farke
Another aspect is to ensure that Leeds have a lot of Premier League experience in their squad compared to their peers, especially Burnley and Sunderland. Farke wants Premier League ready players, which is absolutely vital if they are to achieve survival.
With Leeds aiming to break the cycle of Premier League relegations immediately after promotion, they need to be as streamlined as possible in terms of the operational side of recruitment behind the scenes.
Graham Smyth has explained how Adam Underwood — the club’s Sporting Director — has been working lately in his current role, with the team currently getting through pre-season in Germany.
Speaking via The Square Ball podcast, he was asked whether Underwood and the recruitment team are “knocking about” in Germany currently?
Smyth said: “I wouldn’t say Adam Underwood and the team, I’d say Underwood is here. And then they flew the club secretary out to complete that deal (Anton Stach).
“But Underwood is staying with the team, which he did last summer. And [Gretar] Steinsson was here for some of it as well.
“That’s not particularly new. But it does mean he’s in constant communication with Daniel Farke. That seems to be the way that it’s working — that Underwood is Farke’s link to the recruitment side of things.
“It’s also all going down one channel. So, there is no chance of miscommunication between the departments. And they are continuing to work on stuff while they’re here.
“It does feel to me like we’ve now got to the being slightly more patient part of the window. Because the deals they want to do — there are deals they think are possible but they’re not quite there yet.”

The next three players Adam Underwood could sign for Leeds
Smyth says Leeds are pursuing deals for Lucas Perri, Igor Paixao and Rodrigo Muniz; a trio of Brazilians. Underwood will be desperate to get all three signed in time to face Everton when they come to town on the 18th.
Perri has been seen boarding a plane to join Leeds and he is the next most imminent arrival for Leeds, with a medical being held in Germany to bring him in as quickly as possible.
Leeds have made positive progress on Muniz, but it is Paixao who they are now focusing their efforts on next, with Underwood’s direct communication with Farke likely to be vital in Leeds’ pursuit.
Leeds have made a significant bid for Paixao of Feyenoord, trying to blow Marseille out of the water for the Brazilian and win the race.
