The January transfer window has not just been quiet for Leeds United, but clubs across the country.
Leeds are yet to make any new signings so far this month but at the same time, are willing to be patient in order to secure their top targets. With just nine days until the window closes, that patience is being tested.
The Whites have primarily been looking at the Premier League loan market in the quest to strengthen their squad and so still have three slots left open after Djed Spence’s abrupt exit.
However, with very little transfer activity going on in the division above, the players Leeds are interested in have not yet become available, one of which is David Brooks.
According to the Athletic, Bournemouth will only allow Brooks to leave this month if they are able to bring in a replacement winger, meaning it is one that could go to the wire.
Bournemouth want replacement before loaning Brooks
It has already been reported that the feeling regarding Brooks is that Bournemouth could allow him to leave on loan in the final stages of the window.
Bournemouth had previously been unsure on what to do with the 26-year-old, but it is now clear they will let him go, as long as someone is brought in so they don’t leave themselves short.
Manager Andoni Iraola spoke about Brooks’ future right at the beginning of the window and it has to be said that he did not completely rule out him being on the move.
Leeds are said to be fighting it out with Southampton to sign Brooks this month, though the two clubs are also interested in Burnley’s Manuel Benson, who plays the same position.
It is not ideal having to wait so long to get a deal done, but if Leeds do really want Brooks, it is going to have to be done.
