Leeds United are reportedly interested in a move for Bournemouth’s David Brooks this month.
Along with promotion rivals Southampton, Leeds are said to be keen on signing Brooks on loan for the rest of the season, with the Welshman having started just twice in the Premier League this season.
Brooks was handed the armband in the Cherries’ FA Cup win at QPR on Saturday, but was hooked at the break at 2-0 down. He has been behind Leeds loanee Luis Sinisterra, Marcus Tavernier, Justin Kluivert and Dango Outarra for a starting spot out wide this season.
Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola addressed the speculation surrounding Brooks’ future at the beginning of the window, and did leave the door open to a potential exit.
However, speaking on the latest episode of the Square Ball Podcast, Phil Hay says there have been contrasting suggestions coming out of Bournemouth as to whether they want to lose him.
Bournemouth unsure on Brooks future
He said: “The noises from Bournemouth seem to be a bit inconclusive about whether they really want Brooks to go. You’ll have seen Leeds linked with Fabio Carvalho at Liverpool over the weekend but he is going to Hull City.”
This is Brooks’ first full season back at full fitness having recovered from stage two Hodgkin lymphoma back in May 2022, but just has not managed the minutes he would’ve liked.
A loan move down to the Championship could be ideal to getting his career back on track, and he is exactly the sort of player Leeds are missing in the final third of the pitch.
Leeds could do with either a number 10, or left-footed right-winger in the squad. All of Leeds‘ first choice wingers are right footers who play on the left, all be it Dan James has shone on the opposite flank this season.
If Leeds are serious about getting a deal done for Brooks, this just may be something they will have to be patient with, while Bournemouth decide the best course of action.
