Leeds United are being linked with a move for Liverpool sensation Fabio Carvalho after he was recalled by The Reds from RB Leipzig – but Hull City are now leading the race for his signature.

Carvalho, 21 was a £5m signing at Liverpool in the summer of 2022 after breaking in at Fulham and having a hand in 20 goals in 44 games for Fulham. He played just 21 times for Liverpool last season.

It saw Liverpool allow him to go on loan for the 23-24 season, and he want to Leipzig. But, he lacked game time in Germany – or at least, starts. Just three came his way, remaining an unused sub 10 times.

Reports over the weekend stated that Leeds were one of a number of sides looking to land Carvalho on loan until the end of the season. Southampton and Hull were also in the mix for the U21 Portugal star.

Now, Sky Sports reporter Lyall Thomas has an update in the race for Carvalho. He says that Hull are leading the race to land the Portuguese star, ahead of Leeds and Southampton, in the coming weeks.

Hull City leading race to sign Leeds United target Fabio Carvalho

He would be a stunning signing for any Championship club. A player that has already shown Premier League quality and is expected to become a Premier League player for years to come, as he matures.

Right now, he needs game time and he will get that at any Championship club. Certainly, at Leeds, he would give us a top-quality option in the 10 role. A player Phil Thompson said will be “sensational”.

But, it looks as if Leeds are not going to land the Liverpool man as things stand. Perhaps, the form of Patrick Bamford has seen Daniel Farke lessen the need for a 10 – with Georginio Rutter in that role.
