Brenden Aaronson is set for make or break talks with Daniel Farke regarding his Leeds United future.
It was reported earlier this week that Union Berlin are now considering the possibility of ending Aaronson’s loan spell early having endured a dreadful season since his summer switch from Leeds.
Union are out of Europe and in the Bundesliga’s relegation play-off position and in an attempt to rescue their season, could send Aaronson back to Elland Road, with Farke said to be ‘open’ to the possibility, at this stage.
Now, transfer insider Dean Jones has told Give Me Sport that Aaronson will have to hold ‘frank’ talks with Farke over his next step, which could well prove decisive for his Leeds future.
It is said that if they are unable to reach an agreement on him making a comeback, he could well look to find another club, which would all but end his long-term chances of making it at Leeds.
Aaronson and Farke set for talks
“It has to be said that 2023 has been an absolute disaster for Brenden Aaronson. He was so full of hope when he joined Leeds but had a bad time this calendar year and was completely left out by Sam Allardyce.
“Leeds were relegated, and his Premier League dream ended, then he was loaned out to Union Berlin, and that move has been rubbish as well, as he’s got no goals or assists. And now he is in talks about possibly going back to Leeds.
“I think the discussions are going to have to be very frank between him and Farke to try and understand each other and what they want and need from this.
“And if they can’t find some middle ground on how they can work together, then I imagine we’ll see him contemplating a move to another club in 2024 because he is in desperate need of a pick-me-up that gets his career back on track.”
Farke should avoid Aaronson return
Farke is in a difficult situation as it is clear that he would be open to him coming back, but ultimately, he needs to consider the fan reaction that could occur towards him after leaving on loan.
Aaronson has previously stated in an interview that he doesn’t feel his time at Leeds is over, and watching former teammates like Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter shine, could persuade him to want to give the Championship a go.
Leeds are in need of a new number 10 but probably not of Aaronson’s style, and it just feels like too much of a risky move to bring him back.
