23-year-old may have left door open for Leeds United return, but surely his time at Elland Road is done

For those who left Leeds United on loan in the summer, it is difficult to see a way back for any of them at Elland Road.

The Whites were relegated from the Premier League back in May and saw several members of their first team squad jump ship. Considerably more than Leicester City and Southampton, who also came down.

Eight members of last season’s first team squad departed Leeds on loan in the wake of the club’s return to the Championship, quickly making use of the clause that became active in their respective contracts.

One of those players was Brenden Aaronson. He was among the first to depart, revealing in an interview with the Athletic that Union Berlin were in contact with him just three days after relegation.

In that same interview, Aaronson left the door open for a return to Leeds in the future, insisting his time in West Yorkshire is ‘not done and dusted’. Surely that won’t happen.

Aaronson’s Leeds career surely over despite new comments

For many supporters, there is simply no way back for any of the players who left on loan. They have already burnt too many bridges that simply have no chance of being fixed.

Despite his comments, Aaronson is no exception. His performances was a big reason Leeds were relegated, scoring just one goal and providing three assists is no where near good enough for an attacking midfielder, who played 36 matches.

His decision to jump ship so quickly left a seriously sour taste in the mouth of Leeds fans, and returns for players like Aaronson will only make it a toxic environment again.

But perhaps the biggest reason his Leeds career is surely over, is the fact he isn’t good enough. His start to life at Union Berlin has done little to alter that opinion, with more red cards than goal contributions so far.

If Leeds are to get promoted, they will need better than Aaronson if they are to give the Premier League a better go.
