Brenden Aaronson could now return to Leeds United early from his loan spell at Union Berlin after failing to make an impact.
Aaronson made the season-long-loan move to the Bundesliga side in the summer following Leeds’ relegation, but has arguably struggled more than he did at Elland Road.
The 23-year-old is yet to register a single goal or assist for Union, who have sacked their manager, are out of the Champions League and sit outside the relegation places on goal difference.
With the club in such a predicament, there is a need for January to be an important window and according to Bild, Aaronson could return to Leeds early, alongside Chelsea’s David Fofana.
Whether that is something that can be done without Leeds agreeing to it, is another question, but it would seem Union are not at all happy with his performances so far.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Aaronson next month if Union do not longer want him, as come the summer, his valuation will be lower than what it was after relegation.
Leeds’ plan was for Aaronson to go elsewhere so that he could re-find his form and then be sold for somewhere close to what he was bought for, but that does not look possible at all.
Aaronson himself has left the door open for a return to Leeds but those inside the club do not see that being a possibility given the nature of his exit and his recent form.
He has been criticised regularly for his lack of physicality by the German media and it would seem Union’s complete exit from Europe is the final straw for his loan spell.
It certainly sounds like it is going to be a tough few months for him ahead of the summer, where he could be at a real crossroads in his career.
