Leeds United have signed Sean Longstaff from Newcastle United and the midfielder has since featured in two pre-season friendlies for his new club.

Leeds United had to wait a year to sign Sean Longstaff from Newcastle United, but earlier this month Leeds completed a £15m deal for Longstaff from Newcastle United and he became the club’s fifth summer signing.

Soon after he was followed by Anton Stach who joins Leeds in a £17m deal from Hoffenheim, with him and Longstaff looking like they could be Leeds’ midfield pairing going into next season.

Last weekend, Leeds United drew with Manchester United in a pre-season friendly in Stockholm and the club has since flown out to Germany for a pre-season tour.

Then on Tuesday, Daniel Farke’s side played SC Verl and Leeds United won the game 4-1 in the end with Longstaff featuring throughout, but it proved to be a tough outing for the 27-year-old.

Daniel Farke says Sean Longstaff found Leeds United friendly match tough

In a bid to gain some match fitness, Farke played Longstaff for 81 minutes of the game against Verl. He once again named two XIs for the game, but Longstaff was one, along with Ilia Gruev, who played the bulk of the game.

Speaking to the club afterwards, Farke said that it was a tough afternoon for Longstaff as he regains his fitness. He explained: “For Sean Longstaff, a tough day today to play 90 minutes after a tough day yesterday. But it’s important to get this minutes into the tank, so to speed up our our fitness levels, but also to get more and more used to our process to our game.”

What friendly fixtures do Leeds United have left this summer?

Leeds United will play another behind-closed-doors friendly in Germany on Saturday, however we are yet to find out the opponent and likely won’t do until after the game.

After that, Leeds United play their first pre-season game at Elland Road with Spanish side Villarreal visiting on August 2nd. Then, Farke takes a side to Ireland, with Leeds United playing a blockbuster friendly match against AC Milan at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.

The weekend after the new Premier League season begins, Leeds United start their season at home to Everton on August 18th in an 8pm kick-off on Monday night.

Expect Longstaff to be fully up to speed by then, and expect all the players and the fans to be raring to get going
