It is quite remarkable that only six places separated Leeds United and Manchester United in the English football pyramid last season, as Leeds finished top of the Championship and won promotion.
Under Ruben Amorim, Man United reached the Europa League final but failed to qualify for Europe. But defeat to Tottenham and a 15th-placed finish saw Man United endure their worst Premier League season.
Leeds then, were always going to be difficult opposition for a Man United side that struggled so much last season. Of course, Amorim’s men are expected to be a whole lot better during the 2025-26 season.
But Leeds showed they are more than ready to fight for survival in the Premier League. Man United hit the bar but Jayden Bogle should have scored and really, it was a pretty fair scrap over in Stockholm.

Man United fans left impressed with one Leeds United player
Even Ruben Amorim was left surprised at just how good Daniel Farke’s side were at the Strawberry Arena, with Leeds more than matching Man United. Amorim reckons Leeds will hold their own come 2025-26.
But Man United supporters were left impressed with one Leeds player in particular, in the form of Bogle. Farke may have changed the midfield, but his attacking full-backs remain and it continues to suit Bogle.
Man United fans reacted on X to Bogle’s display following the match, with the £5m signing from Sheffield United catching the eye. They were equally impressed and concerned Bogle would hurt Man United.
One supporter said Bogle looked like a “serious player out there” as he bombed up and down the right flank. Another said the former Derby County star is “one to watch this season” after Saturday’s outing.
Man United have struggled to find a right-back in recent years, and while Noussair Mazraoui has since taken on the role following his move from Bayern, another urged Man United to consider signing Bogle.
Another described him as a “serious player” and predicted he would get a “nice move next summer”. For those of a Leeds persuasion, hopefully not. One even went as far as saying that Bogle is “world-class”.
Leeds players will be looking over their shoulder, but not Bogle…
Leeds have already made five signings and players are quickly finding out if they are going to be in Farke’s starting line-up, or not in his plans. Patrick Bamford has been told he is not in Farke’s Leeds plans.
Pascal Struijk is another casualty, with Jaka Bijol expected to start alongside Joe Rodon come August 18 against Everton. Ilia Gruev is now fifth-choice, with Anton Stach set to arrive alongside Sean Longstaff.
With Leeds set to make another signing up top and a winger, the likes of Largie Ramazani and Joel Piroe may have a decision to make in the next few weeks. Competition and quality is ramping up at Thorp Arch.
