Less than two hours remain in the January transfer window with Leeds United fans clamouring for a new striker amid interest shown in Southampton duo Cameron Archer and Adam Armstrong.

Cameron Archer has been linked with Leeds over the last few days, but were made to wait for The Saints to bring in a replacement. Going into deadline day, the chances of Leeds signing Archer looked good.

However, as deadline day has grown older, the chances of Leeds tempting Southampton to let Archer leave has diminished. Meanwhile, reports emerged Leeds could try to sign his teammate Armstrong.

David Anderson says if Leeds will make striker signing before 11

With the window slamming shut at 11pm, Leeds had also shown interest in Armstrong. The striker that scored the winner at Wembley against Leeds in the play-off final, which was his 24th goal of 2023-24.

Armstrong rejected a move to Sunderland, while Middlesbrough chose to turn a deal down for the star due to Southampton’s demands. Graham Smyth says interest from Leeds in Armstrong was not serious.

Now, The Mirror’s David Anderson has reported on X: “Southampton won’t loan Cameron Archer to Leeds despite the Yorkshire club’s strong interest. Looks like there will be no new striker for Leeds.”

Daniel Farke and Leeds fail to learn from January 2024 window

Back in January 2024, Leeds only signed Connor Roberts on loan from Burnley. The right-back was a solid signing but that was all Leeds did, and The Whites lost pace on Ipswich who made a handful of signings.

The likes of Kieffer Moore got Ipswich over the line, while Leeds failed to deal with injuries to the likes of Patrick Bamford and Pascal Struijk. Leeds were left in the play-offs and Ipswich went up automatically.

This time, it is different. Leeds are top of the table, with depth in every position. But Sunderland, Burnley and Sheffield United have all bolstered significantly. Hopefully, history does not repeat itself.
