Whether Leeds United are expecting any late deadline day arrivals after Isaac Schmidt

Isaac Schmidt will be the eighth player signed by Leeds United this summer.

Schmidt is now thought to have landed in England ahead of undergoing a medical and completing the formalities of his move from FC St Gallen.

The 24-year-old is set to provide cover and competition on both sides of the defence and will finally add depth to a position which Daniel Farke has been keen to strengthen for a number of weeks.

Schmidt delivered an excellent parting gift to his soon-to-be former employers on Thursday night by netting the opener in their Europa Conference League play-off final at Trabzonspor, which they went onto win on penalties.

He now faces a fight on his hands to establish himself as a regular at Elland Road as he battles with Junior Firpo, Jayden Bogle and Sam Byram for a place in the team.

What could follow at Leeds after Schmidt?

Central midfield and full-back were two of three positions Leeds were looking at heading into deadline day, with a new number 10 the other.

With Schmidt and Ao Tanaka, they are two thirds of the way to landing the three Farke wanted but the clock is very much ticking for anything else to happen now.

And the Yorkshire Evening Post have just shared a new update regarding the state of play at Leeds with it now unlikely anyone else will follow Schmidt.

It had always been hope rather than expectation Leeds would be able to land another attacker but when names like Gustavo Hamer and Roland Sallai are being linked, it is hard not to get carried away.

Unfortunately, though, as it stands, Leeds are not expecting anyone else to be signed before the deadline, meaning their tally will end at eight providing there are no late hurdles with Schmidt.

49ers leave Leeds short again

Despite having only been here for three windows, you could argue that the 49ers have left Leeds short in all of them.

This time 12 months ago, Leeds were unable to sign a new number 10 after Nadiem Amiri‘s move from Bayer Leverkusen broke down.

In January, Connor Roberts was Leeds’ only addition and given he started just two league games, his impact was minimal and the Whites fell short.

And it does not appear as though the 49ers have learned from past mistakes as they once again fail to get all the necessary business over the line. Not good.
