What Leeds United ‘club sources’ are saying about interest in Roland Sallai as deadline approaches

Roland Sallai is one of the players Leeds United are keen to sign before the deadline.

The Whites now have just over 48 hours to get any remaining transfer business done and Wednesday has represented a day of little in the way of progress it would seem.

Manor Solomon was announced as the sixth signing of the summer on Tuesday evening but since then, nothing has moved towards the imminent stage.

Leeds are confident of getting a deal done for Ao Tanaka after he missed training with Fortuna Dusseldorf, while interest has also emerged in Ajax’s Owen Wijndal.

Sallai, meanwhile, is a player who Leeds have been tracking for most of the window but it is only in recent days that a deal has become a possibility.

What Leeds sources are saying about Sallai

If Leeds can land Tanaka and either one of Wijndal or Max Aarons, Sallai would be a real cherry on top of a signing.

Leeds are said to be the club pushing strongest at the moment for the 27-year-old, with talks ongoing over a fee of around £7.6 million.

However, as the deadline ticks ever closer, the chances of signing a player of his calibre just feels lower and lower, and so the Yorkshire Evening Post has shared an update.

The report states Leeds club sources insist that interest has not yet ended in Sallai and nothing can definitively be ruled out at this stage.

Sallai is out of contract at Freiburg next summer and is reportedly open to a move to Elland Road, making this one Leeds really need to push over the line.

Leeds have to get Sallai over the line

After reports of a £13 million bid for Gustavo Hamer, interest in Philip Billing and attempts to sign Sallai, if Leeds were to come away with none of those it would be an underwhelming end to the window.

Clearly there are significant reasons why deals for Hamer and Billing would not get done, with Sheffield United charging an extortionate price for the former, and the latter unwilling to drop to the Championship.

However, there does not seem to be those sort of issues when it comes to Sallai and so there is simply no excuse for this not to get done.

Sallai would be an absolutely game changing signing based on his pedigree at club and international level.
