Leeds United’s pursuit of Sheffield United midfielder Gustavo Hamer has taken a major twist.
The Whites are believed to be looking to sign the Blades star before Friday’s 11pm deadline but have so far been frustrated in their efforts.
Earlier in the week, Leeds saw a £13 million offer turned down by Sheffield United with reports suggesting it would be unlikely they return with a second bid.
However, reports from the Netherlands then claimed Hamer has agreed personal terms ahead of a proposed move, with all that’s left now just to agree a fee.
Chris Wilder admitted he was unsure whether Leeds would return for the 27-year-old after his side’s defeat at Barnsley, and was visibly annoyed at the Whites’ attempts.

Hamer stance on Leeds move revealed
Hamer is clearly someone who has been on the radar for some time at Elland Road as Leeds made an attempt to try and sign him last summer, too.
Thanks to the lure of Premier League football, Sheffield United were able to win the race, however with them now back in the Championship, Leeds are looking to make it second time lucky.
Leeds are said to have been told to up their bid by a further £5 million and according to Give Me Sport, the 49ers are now ‘poised’ to make a second one.
Crucially, the report also states Leeds believe Hamer has actually had his head turned by a move to West Yorkshire, which is a huge boost to their chances of signing him.
If Hamer has given some encouragement behind-the-scenes he would be willing to join, there is no reason why Leeds should not bid again.
He is the exact type of midfield player Daniel Farke has been craving, having already scored twice in three league matches this season.
Every word Chris Wilder said about Hamer on Tuesday
As mentioned, Wilder appeared absolutely livid by Leeds’ £13 million offer earlier this week, but if these latest reports are correct, he will be even more so.
Here is what he said: “I thought Gus Hamer was outstanding. We had a chat with Gus, obviously there’s been speculation regarding him, but he showed the energy, the urgency that I’m after and he lit the game up.
“He picked the ball up, he drove, he had about 3 shots in 10 minutes – we have to get that urgency in to the play. He risked and showed what a good player he is. I didn’t see one ounce of that speculation in his performance tonight.
“I don’t know [if they’ll make another bid]. I really don’t know what they’re thinking. Everyone knows what the bid is. They’ve brought in £120m and trying to nick our player for what the bid is. I don’t know what it was supposed to do but it hasn’t done anything and it hasn’t from Gus’ point of view.”
