What Daniel Farke has told Patrick Bamford ahead of January as talks held over lack of Leeds United game time

Patrick Bamford’s second half cameo at Preston North End was the most number of minutes he has played in a league game for Leeds United this season.

Bamford has seen his role in the Leeds squad diminish significantly since picking up an injury in the 44th match of last term away at Middlesbrough.

His only start since then came against Boro in the Carabao Cup back in August, when Leeds were beaten 3-0 and Bamford endured a tough night.

Bamford has found himself behind both Mateo Joseph and Joel Piroe for a place in Leeds‘ attack, despite the fact neither of those two have pulled up any trees this season.

This is not the sort of role Bamford is used to whenever he has been fit at Leeds, with his total number of Championship minutes across the opening 21 matches equating to 102.

Farke and Bamford hold talks over Leeds future

Speculation regarding Bamford’s future has began to mount in recent weeks and that has only intensified after links with Maccabi Tel Aviv’s Dor Turgeman.

Turgeman could cost Leeds around £4.1 million if they decide to pursue a deal and given the finances involved, he certainly wouldn’t be coming in as backup.

That would push Bamford even further down the pecking order at Elland Road, and so according to Team Talk, he has held talks with Daniel Farke about his future.

Farke is said to have told Bamford he remains an important part of the squad but there is an acknowledgement 2025 could see a parting of ways.

Whether that comes in January or the summer will depend on Leeds’ ability to sign a replacement, hence interest in Turgeman.

Serie A outfit Genoa and League One promotion chasers Wrexham are the two clubs mentioned as possible destinations for the 31-year-old.

Bamford’s wages could hinder Leeds exit

LeedsUnited.News spoke exclusively to transfer expert Graeme Bailey earlier this month about Bamford’s future at the club.

Bailey claimed Leeds are open to offers for Bamford in January but his wages could prove to be a stumbling block for interested clubs.

Certainly in the case of Wrexham, despite their wealthy ownership, they would not be able to afford the reported £40,000 a week Team Talk say he is on.

It will be interesting to see if Bamford is willing to take a pay cut in order to find a club where he can play regular football.
