‘Great’ Leeds United player highly ‘likely’ to leave Elland Road in 2025 despite good form this season

Leeds United underwent somewhat of a squad overhaul in 2024 and something similar could be on the cards next year regardless of this season’s outcome.

The Whites are none the wiser as to what division they will be playing in come August and either way, changes will have to be made.

If Leeds remain a Championship club, they will once again have to let go of some key players in order to remain compliant with P&S.

Angus Kinnear confirmed Leeds are in a better spot financially after last summer, but remaining in the EFL will always mean they are treading the line, particularly in what would be the last year of parachute payments.

On the contrary, Leeds would have to spend big on improving the squad if they returned to the Premier League, especially given how difficult all of the most recent promoted clubs have found the step up.

What Sam Greenwood’s future is looking like at Leeds

Something Leeds will have to deal with irrespective of the division they are in is the future of the five returning loanees.

Jack Harrison, Rasmus Kristensen, Darko Gyabi, Sam Greenwood and Sonny Perkins are all out on loan for the season, and at this stage, permanent deals haven’t been setup for any of them.

Greenwood and Kristensen have arguably been the stand-out performers of that quintet for their loan clubs, though it is only really with the former where there is an element of uncertainty.

Leeds fans are well and truly done with Kristensen after he opted to use his loan clause for a second year in a row, but Greenwood is doing his best to at least try and forge himself a long-term future at Elland Road.

However, according to Leeds Live, it is highly ‘likely’ a permanent transfer will be sanctioned for Greenwood in the summer, with just 12 months remaining on his deal.

Leeds are simply hoping Greenwood can continue with the form that has seen him score four goals and create the most big chances in the Championship in order to increase his value for him to be sold.

What Daniel Farke said about Greenwood ahead of PNE vs Leeds

Greenwood was ineligible to face Leeds last weekend when his loan club Preston North End welcomed the Whites to Deepdale.

In the build-up to the game, Farke was about Greenwood’s loan spell so far, confirming there is no chance of him being recalled in January.

He said: “Yes, pleased for Sam because he’s a great human being. Obviously, also a player with lots of potential for him in this age, I think it’s important to play more or less, week in week out.

“This is crucial. And due to the competition in our squad, we couldn’t guarantee this, and for that I’m happy that he found a place where he is right now playing on the regular.”

“In general, I’m not a fan of sending players out on loan just for a few months. I thin it’s important that they have a proper year to develop their personality and be a proper member.”

“I would never rule anything out in football… But in general, I would always say it makes no sense just to send a player just for a few months.”
