Leeds United throw themselves into the mix for Everton’s ‘top target’ after development

Leeds United’s preparations for the summer transfer window are well underway with The 49ers being linked with a plethora of new players – and managers – since promotion was confirmed.

Following Easter Monday’s triumph over Stoke and Sheffield United’s defeat to Burnley, Farke’s future at Leeds has been questioned while plenty of players have been linked with a new move to Elland Road.

Southampton, Leicester and Ipswich spent a combined £300m during 2024-25 and Leeds will know that to be competitive and have a chance of remaining in the Premier League – £100m will need to be spent.

The 49ers want six major signings and Adam Pope has agreed with Tony Mowbray, urging The Whites to spend more than nine figures over the next few months. A Newcastle player is the latest to be linked.

Leeds told how much Sean Longstaff would cost The 49ers

Newcastle’s homegrown midfielder Sean Longstaff has emerged as a target for Leeds. It is not the first time either, with Leeds supposedly eyeing Longstaff a year ago – if The Whites had been promoted.

The uncapped Englishman is about to enter the final year of his contract and has dropped down the order. Hardly his fault, given the quality of Newcastle trio Joelinton, Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali.

Leeds want to raid Newcastle and add Longstaff with Farke eyeing Premier League-proven talent. The Toon ace has 170 Premier League outings under his belt and The Sun now say he will cost a £10m fee.

Familiar rival hoping to blow Leeds out of the water for Longstaff

Leeds are not alone in their pursuit of the box-to-box midfielder, who has had a hand in 19 goals during his 170 games for The Toon. Indeed, The Sun say Everton also want to raid Newcastle for Longstaff.

A move that would see soon-to-be Everton chief executive Angus Kinnear push Leeds aside to land the Newcastle star’s signature. Kinnear has already stung Leeds, tempting Nick Hammond to Merseyside.

Longstaff would be a superb signing for either side, but given he lack of strength in depth at Leeds, the Whites probably need him more. For a £10m fee, Longstaff is a bargain and Leeds have got to move.
