Leeds United fans have not been afforded the luxury of looking too far into the summer and the excitement over the kind of player The 49ers could lure to Elland Road, until now.

Perhaps after the 3-1 win over Sheffield United at Bramall Lane, fans probably thought Leeds were as good as up. But in typical Leeds fashion, one win in six games came next and the lead was surrendered.

However, two wins in a row against Middlesbrough and Preston has come at the same that Sheffield United have now suffered an implosion. Three straight defeats, last time out against Plymouth away.

With four games left to go and five points separating Leeds and third-placed Sheffield United, with The Blades having to go to Burnley next Monday, fans can perhaps start to relax about possible promotion.

How many signings The 49ers want to make at Leeds this summer

With promotion now on the horizon with four games left to play, fans are perhaps starting to take an interest over who could arrive at Leeds this summer. Certainly, Leeds will now be shortlisting their targets.

Plenty of players have been linked, with Adam Pope predicting Leeds would need six major signings and over £100m spent. Indeed, Ipswich and Southampton spent more than £100m and are still going down.

Now, The Mail report how many signings The 49ers believe Leeds need to make in the coming months if indeed Daniel Farke guides The Whites to promotion. Leeds are planning on making six major signings.

Which positions do The 49ers feel they need to strengthen?

The report from The Mail outlines which positions The 49ers, Farke and the transfer team at Leeds feel they need to strengthen. The first one is an obvious one, a replacement for Illan Meslier in the Leeds goal.

Cover at centre-back is key, too. Ethan Ampadu is being taken away from midfield to cover Pascal Struijk who is injured again, while Max Wober is expected to leave. Junior Firpo is set to see his contract expire.

A replacement for Firpo is also expected. Moving up the pitch, a central midfielder and a winger are also targeted by The Whites – which could well be permanent deals for duo Joe Rothwell and Manor Solomon.

But perhaps the most-important signing Leeds have to make this summer is a new striker. One that can fire Leeds towards Premier League safety during the 2025-26 season, if of course, Leeds are promoted.
