The January transfer window is now open. Like most in the Championship, Leeds United will look to do their share of business, whilst also managing who leaves Elland Road too.
There’s some quite worrying interest in some of their players. But Leeds United will likely only sell if replacements are brought in during this month’s transfer window.
Names like Illan Meslier has been linked with Fiorentina of late, whilst centre-back Pascal Struijk is a target for Tottenham Hotspur.
Struijk remains an integral player, no less because centre-back is a position that Leeds are desperately light on.
An injury to one of Struijk or Joe Rodon could really derail Leeds’ season. And that might explain why names like centre-backs Nico Elvedi and Ben Godfrey are being linked with January moves to Elland Road.
Another centre-back who’s been linked ahead of the New Year is Nottingham Forest’s Andrew Omobamidele.

Leeds United a ‘possible destination’ for Nottingham Forest’s Andrew Omobamidele
In December, it was revealed that Leeds United are keen on Omobamidele at Nottingham Forest, who played under Daniel Farke at Norwich City where he got his break in senior football.
Farke oversaw Omobamidele’s breakthrough into the first-team and gave him his Premier League debut against Arsenal in 2021, after which the Leeds boss labelled him ‘outstanding’. Omobamidele went on to become a key player for Canaries, making 57 total appearances between 2021 and 2023.
Nottingham Forest signed Omobamidele for £11million from Norwich City in 2023. He featured 11 times in the Premier League last season but has played just one Carabao Cup game this time round, having fallen well out of favour at the City Ground.
Now, The Telegraph report that Forest could send Republic of Ireland centre-back Omobamidele out on loan in January, and that Leeds United is a ‘possible destination’ for the 22-year-old.

Nico Elvedi latest could decide Leeds move for Andrew Omobamidele
A new centre-back certainly seems like a possibility for Leeds United in the January transfer window.
No doubt, the Whites would prefer a player on a permanent deal, and it’s been claimed that Leeds are leading the race for Elvedi at Borussia Monchengladbach.
He’d cost the 49ers £10million. But it’s said that Leeds may have to wait until the summer to get that deal across the line.
That could make a loan signing the better option for Leeds in January, and so Omobamidele could be a very realistic candidate to bolster Leeds’ defensive ranks right now.
