Leeds United could enter the January transfer window for a couple of new signings with a defender and competition for Brenden Aaronson likely to be of high priority.

Daniel Farke believes Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk are the best two centre-backs in the Championship. But behind them, Leeds lack cover especially if Max Wober continues to be used on the left of defence.

Wober also, has been linked with an exit. Salzburg could try a loan for Wober, while Premier League side Wolves could sign Wober in the coming weeks. Leeds and Wolves are also battling for Christopher Wooh.

Leeds United are now leading Wolves for another defender

Switzerland star Nico Elvedi is a target for Leeds this month, despite remaining a regular for Gladbach. A player that has clocked up a whopping 312 appearances for the Bundesliga side since joining in 2015.

A move would see Leeds reunite Elvedi with Daniel Farke, given the German gaffer managed Gladbach for 12 months between June 2022 and June 2023 prior to his move to Elland Road in the summer of 2023.

Now, a report from TeamTalk suggests Leeds are actually leading Wolves in the race to sign Elvedi from Gladbach. A move that is set to cost £10m, but there is a problem and it could prevent a deal this month.

Leeds may have to wait until the summer for Nico Elvedi

While Elvedi prefers Leeds to Wolves, The Whites may have to wait until the summer because the player is unwilling to drop into the Championship. It means that promotion is required before action can be taken.

A player compared to John Stones by the Bundesliga website, Elvedi will also want to remain at Gladbach as he closes in on overtaking Yann Sommer at the top of the list of appearances for a foreign player.

Indeed, he’s only a handful of game shy of reaching the top 10 of Gladbach’s all-time appearance makers. So, Leeds are leading the race to sign a player in Elvedi who is top-tier standard, but will have to wait.
