Leeds United have been left disappointed in a lot of their transfer pursuits in January.
Daniel Farke yesterday revealed that Leeds had come close to signing a couple of players over the course of the window, but for different reasons have fell through.
Leeds are still yet to make a single signing so far in the January window and have less than 12 hours in order to do so, though a deal for Burnley’s Connor Roberts is looking more and more likely.
Roberts would help solve the big hole in the squad left by the exits of Djed Spence and Luke Ayling, though he is not the only defender Leeds are keen to bring in. A centre-back is wanted too.
However, according to Team Talk, that player will not be Ben Godfrey. They state that ‘barring any late twists’, Sean Dyche will not be sanctioning an exit for the 26-year-old.
Godfrey now set for Everton stay
It is said that AC Milan have had an approach knocked back by Everton for Godfrey, who had seemingly been given the green light to leave earlier in the window.
Leeds were also in talks over a loan with an obligation-to-buy, but have been unable to ‘meet in the middle’ with Everton, who were holding out for a permanent sale.
Farke had really been pushing to bring Godfrey to Elland Road having worked alongside him at Norwich City, where the defender arguably enjoyed the best period of his career.
However, Godfrey was handed 90 minutes in Tuesday’s 0-0 draw at Fulham, which was just his second league start of the season, but a major signal of Dyche’s intentions.
Leeds have also been linked with moves for Harry Souttar and Joe Worrall today and so if a centre-back is wanted, they will need to look elsewhere from Godfrey.
