Leeds United now on the verge of making their first January signing

Leeds United are determined to bring in a new right-back before tonight’s 11pm deadline.

Having lost both Djed Spence and Luke Ayling earlier in the window, Leeds now have just Archie Gray and Jamie Shackleton as options at right-back, neither of whom are naturals in that position.

Leeds are yet to make a single signing so far but with the deadline fast approaching, work is going on behind-the-scenes and a new update has been provided on the pursuit of one of them.

Earlier this morning it was reported that Leeds have opened discussions with Burnley over a deal for Connor Roberts, a player who has been linked throughout the window.

Now, talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook has shared a very promising new development on the deal, stating that a move is now close to being completed.

‘Work to be done’ on Roberts to Leeds

Daily Telegraph journalist Mike McGrath has also shared what he’s heard on a potential switch to Elland Road for Roberts, stating that a deal is very much a possibility, though work still needs to be done.

It is unclear whether it will be a permanent or loan deal at this stage, but it is highly likely to be the latter, as it is the market Leeds have been shopping in throughout the window.

Roberts played just over half an hour for Burnley against Manchester City last night but Vincent Kompany did admit in his pre-match press conference that a move is not off the table.

Burnley have reportedly been open to sanctioning a deal throughout the window and it may well have hinged on them landing a replacement, which they may have found in Borussia Dortmund’s Thomas Meunier.

Roberts’ arrival would be welcome news to Leeds supporters given the desperation to bring in another right-back after Spence’s exit.
