Paul Gascoigne could see striker joining Rangers despite Leeds United links

Leeds United are said to be in the market for a striker as Daniel Farke needs a reliable frontman in the Premier League.

Although Joel Piroe has impressed this season, the one thing he lacks is Premier League experience.

His 26 goal contributions in the second tier prove he’s clear of Championship level so it’s all about proving his worth in the top flight.

Farke might not have full faith in the Dutchman after Piroe has had dismal showings, and will be demanding much more from the striker.

Well, one target that has come to the surface has been mooted by Paul Gascoigne, but not for Leeds.

Jamie Vardy leaving Leicester City this season has brought up much debate about where his next club will be.

It’s been made clear that Vardy could join Leeds, as the 49ers could do with an experienced head up front in the big time.

Simon Grayson has suggested Vardy as a squad player for Leeds, but Farke will be seeking a starting number nine to score in the big moments.

Whether that is the 38-year-old or not is another question, but Gascoigne thinks he’s bound to have talks with the 49ers anyway, but at Rangers.

Speaking to SportingTalk, the former England international could see Vardy joining the Scottish giants.

“Yeah, you could do. Rangers is a tough team to play for, you’ve got to make sure you’re winning every game,” Gascoigne said.

“I’m sure he’ll score some goals up there.”

Vardy wouldn’t be the answer Farke is looking for at Leeds

Of course, the Premier League legend has a goalscoring record that speaks for itself, as 144 goals in the top flight isn’t an easy feat.

The Leeds boss would no doubt love an experienced Premier League player, but as a starter, is a different conversation.

Although he’s still been finding the net this season, his status as a starting player has shown inconsistency.

This could ultimately mean Farke shies away from looking into a deal for Vardy, who himself might not want to be a squad player.

Grayson does think Vardy could keep Leeds in the Premier League, but all parties need to be happy and that’s not looking possible.
