The latter stages of the transfer window often sends clubs into a frenzy and it looks like Leeds United will try to do some business before the close of play on Monday night.

Joe Gelhardt’s loan exit and Patrick Bamford’s hamstring has heightened the need for another body in attack at Elland Road. Joel Piroe got a brace on Saturday but on many occasions, the striker goes missing.

Mateo Joseph finally ended his search for a goal with his third of the season after coming off the bench during the 7-0 rout of Cardiff City. But that is unlikely to change Leeds’ bid to bring in a new striker.

Leeds have been linked with plenty this month. Gelhardt’s new teammate Louie Barry, Manor Solomon’s Israeli teammate Dor Turgeman, Willem Geubbels from Isaac Schmidt’s old side St. Gallen and lots more.

Now, Leeds are said to be courting Southampton striker Cameron Archer with talks underway. Leeds have also been linked with Chelsea teenager Marc Guiu over the weekend, ahead of a potential loan deal.

Simon Grayson asked if Leeds United should sign Jamie Vardy

Moments after the win over Cardiff in which Leeds went five points clear of third, Simon Grayson was told on BBC Radio Leeds by a Whites supporter that the club should go and sign Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy.

Now 38, Vardy has still managed to start 22 of Leicester’s 24 Premier League games – having a hand in 10 goals. The chances of Leeds signing Vardy of course, are tiny and Grayson gave his verdict on a move.

Leeds fan on BBC Radio Leeds’ post-match phone-in show: “Leicester are going down. Go and get Jamie Vardy to put us in the Premier League. Give him an 18-month contract to keep us in the Premier League.”

Grayson responded to the Leeds fan’s suggestion of a move to sign Vardy: “I was working in Leicester the other week and Jamie Vardy played, he looked like he was struggling a bit. His wages are huge,” he said.

“It is probably six figures. I think he will finish his career at Leicester, I get what you’re saying to bring in another centre-forward. Today’s result doesn’t change what will happen in the window,” Grayson added.

How Jamie Vardy compares to Leeds’ strikers in Championship…

As Grayson politely replied, there is no way Vardy joins. He won’t want to drop into the second tier while starting at Leicester, Ruud van Nistelrooy will not want to lose him and Leeds won’t want a 38-year-old.

Especially, given Vardy is rumored to be earning a massive £135,000 a week at the King Power. But, you would expect Vardy to score goals in this Leeds side even if he thrives largely off playing on the counter.

Leeds are desperate to bring in a new striker before Monday’s deadline and Daniel Farke says the club could also target a no.10 and a defender. But, the chances of Leeds signing Vardy are virtually zero.
