Leeds United’s search for a new striker has entered the final two days as The Whites desperately look to bring in a player or two before Monday evening’s deadline strikes.

The Whites are expected to try and lure a striker to Elland Road over the course of the next 48 hours. It comes after Leeds sanctioned a loan for Joe Gelhardt, with the outcast joining Hull City until the summer.

Then, Patrick Bamford suffered a setback in his recovery from a hamstring injury. It has left Leeds with just Joel Piroe and Mateo Joseph up top, with the duo often struggling at times to find the back of the net.

That of course, was not the case on Saturday. Piroe took his tally to 12 goals this term with a brace, while Joseph finally broke his drought with a third goal of the season as Leeds smashed Cardiff to win 7-0.

Leeds United want £5m Chelsea attacker before January deadline

But Saturday’s win is unlikely to change Leeds’ transfer stance. The need for a striker remains, with Leeds eyeing a move for Southampton’s Cameron Archer. However, Archer is not the only striker Leeds want.

Indeed, Chelsea striker Marc Guiu has emerged as an option. The Sun (p55, 02/02) say on Sunday that Leeds are among the clubs tracking Chelsea’s Spain U19 striker, who has starred in Europe this season.

Labelled “fantastic” by Enzo Maresca on Chelsea’s site, Guiu has six goals in six games for Chelsea in the Conference League after arriving for £5m from Barcelona. Boro and West Brom are also keen on a loan.

Chelsea have often been criticised for over-spending in the transfer market, their scatter-gun approach to signing players. But Guiu hs been a real find, Chelsea activating a bargain release clause in his Barca deal.

He joined Chelsea after scoring two senior goals in seven outings for Barcelona, and now has six goals in 12 for The Blues in all competitions. However, all six have come in the Conference League for Maresca.

Indeed, three came in the form of a hat-trick against Shamrock Rovers. Just 32 minutes of Premier League football has been handed to Guiu despite his European antics. Largely unproven, but massive potential.
