Leeds United produced their biggest win in more than 50 years with a huge 7-0 win over Cardiff City at Elland Road on Saturday afternoon, with six different players scoring goals.

Brenden Aaronson, Manor Solomon, Dan James, Wilfried Gnonto, Mateo Joseph and a brace from Mateo Joseph saw Leeds produce a real statement to the rest of the Championship with a stunning 7-0 victory.

Leeds’ biggest win since beating Southampton back in 1972 by the same scoreline, a whole 53 years ago. Better yet, Leeds’ victory came on the same day that Burnley failed to beat Portsmouth away from home.

Scott Parker’s side drew 0-0 and it sees Leeds go five points clear of the third-placed Clarets. Meanwhile, it was a narrow 1-0 win for Sheffield United at Derby while Sunderland face Middlesbrough on Monday.

Josuha Guilavogui drops hint on Leeds future amid Paris rumours

He might have remained an unused substitute on Saturday, but Guilavogui was as delighted as anyone else. The seven-time France star was delighted with his teammates, applauding plenty on the pitch.

Guilavogui is well-liked among Leeds fans but this month, the Frenchman has been linked with a move. Promotion-chasing Ligue 2 side Paris FC want to sign Guilavogui, another club to have also benefitted from RedBull investment.

However, Guilavogui’s post on Instagram suggests that he isn’t going anywhere as he looks to the rest of the season – even suggesting that he thinks Leeds will go and get promoted.

“Our collective strength was not born today. It has been built over many months of hard work and dedication. I feel privileged to be part of a team with such solidarity,” Guilavogui told Leeds fans.

“I have enough experience now to know that what we are experiencing is special. Let’s keep going, and we will get the reward we deserve,” the Leeds midfielder added, suggesting he feels promotion is likely.

How does the Championship table look after Saturday’s games?

It reads well for Leeds ahead of Wednesday night. A massive win that seriously improves goal difference on the same day that Burnley fail to win and Sunderland are not in action for another couple of days.

While Leeds maintain their two-point lead over Sheffield United, what is crucial is that Leeds sit a huge five ahead of third place. Winning the League title is great, but automatic promotion is the ultimate aim.

Leeds are in action on Wednesday night in what looks an incredibly tough game, as The Whites go to an in-form Coventry City who are impressing under Frank Lampard – having won their fifth game in a row.
