Leeds United now have just until 11pm tonight to complete any remaining transfer business.
The Whites have not yet brought anyone in during the January window but still have a couple of positions which need addressing, with Daniel Farke having previously admitted the squad is two players weaker.
Having lost both Djed Spence and Luke Ayling, defence is very much the priority at this late stage and without any luck so far, Leeds have been linked with a number of different players.
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has provided an early update on Leeds’ deadline day plans to Give Me Sport, and insists the Whites remain on the lookout for new additions before tonight.
He said: “Of course, a centre-back is needed at Leeds. They are looking for an opportunity there. The name is still unclear, but Leeds are still trying and looking for a chance there.”
Right-back surely a bigger priority than centre-back
Leeds have been linked with several centre-backs over the course of the window, but given recent developments, surely a right-back is more important.
Romano reported earlier this week that Leeds have seen an approach rejected by Bournemouth for Chris Mepham, while there is also interest in Nottingham Forest’s Joe Worrall if he can leave on loan.
Ben Godfrey is also seemingly someone Farke is pushing to sign, though he would make considerably more sense than the other two given his ability to play anywhere across the back four.
However, you would not have thought Leeds would be chasing a centre-back with Charlie Cresswell now expected to stay at Elland Road beyond the deadline, when an exit had looked likely.
Liam Cooper will also be going no where near despite interest from Blackburn Rovers. It will be interesting to see how it materialises before the window slams shut.
