Daniel Farke has just hinted at the two signings Leeds United still want to make this month

Daniel Farke has once again been asked about the prospect of Leeds United making any new signings this month.

Leeds are yet to make their first foray into the January window but under Farke’s own admission, there are still some positions that need strengthening in the next nine days.

Having lost both Djed Spence and Luke Ayling, the full-back positions are very much Leeds’ priority, but Farke has today claimed there is another area they need to ‘stay awake on’.

That is centre-back. Leeds have been without Pascal Struijk due to injury for the last month and at this stage, it is still uncertain when he will return.

Charlie Cresswell is also likely to leave with Farke not currently prepared to select him in the squad unless he improves his attitude. Bids have already been rejected for him.

Speaking in his press conference ahead of Norwich City earlier today, Farke says Leeds cannot afford to be ‘naïve’ over the next nine days, with the squad ‘two players short’ than what it was at the start of the window.

Farke hints that signings will arrive

“Upturn and downturn in form is quick in this league. We were convinced before we were the best team in November. Lost a few games afterwards does not change our belief or support for the players.

“What has changed is the full-back positions after Djed and Luke. We let them go. Compared to the first half of the season we are two players short. Topic with Charlie Cresswell and Pascal Struijk right now.

“Have to wait what the next days will bring. We were hoping he would return sooner than this. Cannot be naïve. Assess this position. We know which areas we have to stay awake on.”

Leeds have been linked with a move for Everton’s Ben Godfrey in the last couple of days and that is a signing that would significantly strengthen Farke’s squad if Cresswell is to leave.

Though primarily a centre-back, he is capable of capable of covering every position across the back four and his arrival alongside another full-back would give Leeds good depth.

With Struijk’s injury taking a lot longer to recover than initially expected, it is a no brainer to bring in another quality central defender.
