The abrupt end to Djed Spence’s time at Leeds United shows Daniel Farke is not afraid to make the big decisions.
Farke hinted at attitude problems as the reason for Spence’s season-long-loan move from Tottenham Hotspur being cancelled last week, a decision which caught many by surprise.
And it would now appear Farke is in a similar situation with another player at the club, but this time it is someone who is a permanent member of the squad.
Charlie Cresswell is the man in question, with the 21-year-old having played just one minute of football since the Carabao Cup exit to Salford City all the way back in August.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of the trip to Cardiff City, Farke says Cresswell will not be getting selected anytime soon unless he improves his attitude and focus.
Farke says Cresswell needs to improve attitude
He said: The ball is in his court. We use January, you either find a solution, you want to play for a different club or you’re happy to be No. 4 and committed and be patient.
“Then perhaps to be centre-back No. 3 spot, then the starting line-up, but if you think you have the right to start ahead of Rodon or Struijk, it’s not possible. He won’t be picked by myself until he’s mentally ready or there’s a different solution.”

This is a big show of intent from Farke and based on what he’s said, it would appear there is only one outcome this month and that is for Cresswell to leave – whether on loan, or permanent.
Cresswell has been heavily linked with a move away but Farke’s initial stance was that he did not want to lose him, but that was softened somewhat after the win over Birmingham City on New Year’s Day. Even more so today.
Cresswell’s Dad Richard went public about his lack of game time in recent months on Instagram over the weekend, and it does not seem to have gone down too well with Farke.
