Leeds United remain on the hunt for new additions before the end of the January deadline and now it appears the Whites have seen a move for Bournemouth’s Chris Mepham rejected on Monday.

The 26-year-old is expected to leave Bournemouth before Thursday’s deadline having started just three Premier League matches under Andoni Iraola. Leeds are in the market for defensive additions right now.

Mepham may suit, too. Able to play right-back as well as centre-back, Leeds could do with his quality as well as his versatility. Mepham is a big fan of his Wales teammate Joe Rodon and that may also help.

The Whites have been linked with a move for Mepham for the majority of the window given his lack of game time at The Vitality Stadium – and now, Leeds and Sheffield United have made bids to sign him.

Indeed, Fabrizio Romano says that Chris Wilder’s side also want Mepham – as do Leeds. But, instead of what had been expected and Bournemouth to accept – The Cherries have rejected Wilder and Leeds.

What a signing Mepham would have been. Even if he struggled to start over Rodon and Pascal Struijk – when the latter was fit – he would have been a brilliant option for Daniel Farke. A top-tier defender.

He could easily have overtaken the starting duo and with Struijk not yet back from injury, he would have been superb alongside Rodon at the back. Especially, given they are the defensive heart for Wales.

But it appears he will now be staying at The Vitality alongside Tyler Adams, Luis Sinisterra and Max Aarons – all of whom currently reside at Bournemouth. He is still an important player for them.
