Emmanuel Latte Lath’s record-breaking move from Middlesbrough to Atlanta United is seemingly on hold, and it might give Leeds United an opening to make their move. Or will it?
Earlier in January, we revealed that Emmanuel Latte Lath is a target for Leeds United in this January transfer window.
Daniel Farke is lacking in strikers right now and although he says he’s happy to see out the season with his current options, more and more strikers are being linked with moves to Elland Road.
Leeds’ interest in Latte Lath is unsurprising given the striker’s fine form at Middlesbrough in this 2034/25 season, with 11 goals and three assists in 28 Championship outings so far.
But it quickly looked like Leeds would be disappointed in the race for Latte Lath who’s reportedly agreed a move to Atlanta United in the MLS, where he’d become the league’s most expensive signing of all time.
Over a week has passed though and Latte Lath remains a Middlesbrough player. He’s been playing as normal for Michael Carrick’s side and the Boro boss insists that nothing has changed regarding Latte Lath’s situation at the club.

Michael Carrick discusses Emmanuel Latte Lath transfer latest
Carrick was asked for another update on the Latte Lath saga ahead of Middlesbrough’s Championship clash away at Preston North End on Saturday.
He told The Northern Echo that the situation is ‘exactly the same’ as before, but suggested that the club would be open to selling the 26-year-old Latte Lath should the price be right.
Carrick said: “The situation is exactly the same as it has been. I think you can see in his attitude to playing and the fact he’s scoring goals, it’s no issue for us.
“I can’t say for any player that we will definitely hang on to them. Every player in the world has some price whatever that is. There’s no denying that, that’s football. But nothing has changed at the minute, we are where we are, and we’re happy with it.
“I’m saying as genuine and honest as I can. Nothing has changed in my approach or what we’re preparing for the next game.”
Leeds United have turned their attentions to another striker
Despite having had so many players and a number of strikers linked with moves to Leeds in this January window, none have really come close to signing. Or at least so it seems.
But reports on Thursday evening revealed that Leeds United are set to sign Kelechi Iheanacho from Sevilla, though whether that’s a loan deal or a permanent one remains to be seen.
Leeds have been quite heavily linked with Iheanacho in the last week after the Spanish club decide they’d be willing to let him leave, just half-a-season after he joined as a free agent from Leicester City.
Leeds’ pursuit of Latte Lath was always ambitious given how much the move would’ve cost the Whites, and although it’s not impossible that Leeds make a late move, it looks like they’ll settle for Iheanacho instead.
