Take a look at the most expensive transfer signings of all time in Leeds United history, brought to you by Leeds United News.

Leeds United have had a mixed record when it comes to the transfer window in the club’s history. With several spells in the Premier League, the Whites have often looked to strengthen considerably within the market.

With inflated transfer fees and hopes of top-flight football, Leeds have smashed their transfer record several times in recent years. From some flops in the window to absolute bargains, it has been hit and miss for the club.

So with that said, here’s a look at Leeds United’s ten most expensive transfer signings of all time.

Leeds United splashed the cash in 2001 to land promising young striker Robbie Keane from Inter Milan, following a loan spell. The striker scored 18 goals and grabbed two assists over two seasons, making 56 appearances for the club.

The Irish forward didn’t stay long though, eventually leaving for Tottenham on a permanent deal in 2002.

On their return to the Premier League, Leeds looked to strengthen their ranks quickly and landed Raphinha for a deal worth just under £16million from Rennes. The winger was impressive while playing for the Whites.

The Brazilian made 67 appearances for Leeds, scoring 17 goals and assisting 12 in that short time. It led to plenty of interest in the transfer market, with a switch to Barcelona eventually being confirmed in summer 2022.

9 – Diego Llorente – £17.1m

Leeds looked to strengthen their defensive options in 2020, following promotion, and landed Diego Llorente to do just that. The Spaniard cost just over £17million, going on to make 59 appearances for the club.

The 30-year-old is still on the books at Leeds, currently spending the season on loan with Italian giants AS Roma.

8 – Jean-Kevin Augustin and Noah Okafor – £18m

The story of Jean-Kevin Augustin and Leeds is a strange one that has had a bizarre outcome. The centre-forward joined the club on loan in 2020, hopeful of helping the team towards the Premier League in the final months of the season.

The COVID pandemic hit and suspended football until it picked up again in the summer. Augustin played just 48 minutes and despite winning promotion, Leeds claimed that the permanent transfer clause involved was no longer valid – due to the delay in the season.

The Frenchman went on to join Nantes on a free transfer, but Leeds were forced to pay the transfer fee of roughly £18million, as well as the contract terms on top. It came as a huge error in judgement for those at the club involved in the deal.

Joining him in 8th place is fellow striker Noah Okafor, who was signed from AC Milan in the summer of 2025.

Leeds actually signed Okafor for a bargain upfront fee of just £13m, but that could rise up to £18m if certain add-ons are met.

7 – Anton Stach – £19.9m

Anton Stach became Leeds’ first entry on the most expensive list since 2023 when he joined from Hoffenheim in the summer of 2025.

Leeds agreed to a £19.9m package for Stach with Hoffenheim, with £17.3m of the fee guaranteed and an additional £2.6m in bonuses.

Stach became Leeds’ sixth signing of the window, following Sean Longstaff, Sebastiaan Bornauw, Jaka Bijol and Gabriel Gudmundsson.

6 – Luis Sinisterra – £21.4m

Leeds looked to replace Raphinha in summer 2022 by landing Luis Sinisterra from Feyenoord for just over £21million. The winger suffered with a few injury troubles and made just 26 appearances for the club, before leaving for Bournemouth on an initial loan made permanent.

5 – Rio Ferdinand – £22.3m

Rio Ferdinand left West Ham to join Leeds in 2000, taking himself to new heights as a young defender. The centre-back made 73 appearances for the Whites, but made a shock move to rivals Manchester United in 2002.

4 – Brenden Aaronson – £24.7m

Brenden Aaronson joined Leeds in 2022, with hopes that his quality for RB Leipzig would translate well to the Premier League. There were spells of it, but ultimately it wasn’t enough as the team were relegated to the second tier.

3 – Daniel James – £24.8m

A player who made a switch from Old Trafford to Elland Road is Dan James as the pacey winger finally secured a switch to Leeds. The Welshman was touted with a move to join the Whites a few seasons prior, but it fell through at the last second.

He has since been a key player in the side and will be looking to cement his place in the memory of supporters for years to come.

2 – Rodrigo – £25.7m

Leeds smashed their transfer record in 2020 with a statement transfer for Rodrigo from Valencia. The striker played 97 times for the club, scoring 28 times, but eventually left to join Al-Rayyan in Qatar.

Aaronson is still contracted to Leeds, spending the 2023/24 season on loan at Bundesliga side Union Berlin.

Georginio Rutter is currently the most expensive Leeds signing of all time, joining for roughly £35.5million from Hoffenheim in January 2023. The striker failed to hit the ground running in the top flight, but has since shown his class in the Championship.
