Leeds United planning initial bid for £21.3m striker who is high on Daniel Farke’s wishlist

Leeds United have set their sights on a new striker, and he won’t come cheap with his current club demanding a fee of £21.3million.

Following Leeds United’s promotion to the Premier League, and their Championship title-win, the Whites now look set for a very active and expensive summer transfer window in a bid to finally keep themselves in the top flight.

The 49ers have a plan for the club: they want Leeds United to finish in the top eight within five years. But to achieve that they’ll need some very shrewd signings, with Daniel Farke currently having a lot of gaps in his side.

At both ends of the pitch and in every department, Leeds United need reinforcements. But there’s a sense that the frontline is the one that needs the most work doing with Farke’s current options both very limited, and lacking in real Premier League experience.

Joel Piroe has never played in the Premier League. Patrick Bamford has but he could leave Leeds United this summer. Mateo Joseph meanwhile remains a rotational player at most.

Leeds United reportedly line up opening Troy Parrott bid

Earlier in May Leeds United were linked with a move for former Spurs striker Troy Parrott who is now playing with AZ Alkmaar. After rumours that Piroe could return to the Eredivisie with PSV, Leeds could now raid the Dutch top flight for Parrott who’s scored 14 in the league this season, and 20 in all competitions.

And Dutch outlet Voetbal Primeur report that ‘Parrott’s name is being hotly debated internally’ at Elland Road with ‘an initial bid towards Alkmaar planned’. It’s claimed that AZ want €25million (£21.26million) for Parrot this summer, having paid €8million (£6.8million) to sign him from Spurs last summer.

Parrott only ever made two Premier League appearances for Spurs, without scoring. He also failed to impress in several loan spells away from the club with teams in League One and the Championship before finding his footing in the Netherlands.

Troy Parrott vs Joel Piroe in 2024/25

Piroe finished the season with a bang. He’d gone nine games without scoring before Piroe scored four against Stoke City in a 6-0 win which helped to seal promotion, ending the season with 19 goals and seven assists and winning the Championship Golden Boot in the process.

For all the criticism he receives, he’s clinical for the most part. He deserves his chance in the Premier League but he can’t do it alone, though.

Parrott has enjoyed a whirlwind 2024/25 but a return to the Premier League this summer may be a step too soon for the 23-year-old, who’ll surely want to continue his fine form this season.

And £21.3million for a player who’s never really proven himself in England seems a bit steep.
