Joel Piroe responds to PSV rumours just days after hinting at possible Leeds United exit

Much has been made in recent days over Joel Piroe’s future at Elland Road, as a Leeds United exit has been suggested.

The suggestion came from Piroe himself as the striker may not have a long-term future at the club after all.

Piroe hinted at a PSV return after the Dutchman started his career there long before he moved to the Whites in the summer of 2023.

It can be argued that the 25-year-old has been Daniel Farke’s player of the season, with the striker not only having the most goal involvements for Leeds with 21, but it is also the Championship’s highest.

Judging by this, Farke won’t want to lose his star man, as Piroe has responded to these rumours.

Joel Piroe responds to Leeds United exit rumours after PSV hint

The striker may feel he’ll need to be careful with his words in the future as it was him who revealed the desire.

Piroe’s words might have been mixed, but it’s clear he’s keen on a return to the Dutch giants.

Along with Piroe, PSV could poach two other Leeds players, as Pascal Struijk and Maximilian Wober have been linked to the side.

Well, in Piroe’s case, he has spoken to BBC Sport West Yorkshire to clear things up after the comment.

“I just think, that’s not what I actually said (returning to PSV) you let it slide and just carry on,” Piroe said.

“At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter what other people think.”

Leeds must retain Piroe for at least one year in Premier League

It’s not set in stone that the Whites will be a top-flight side next season, with plenty of football still to be played.

But if Leeds did get promoted, it seems like Piroe would consider his future either way.

If promotion wasn’t secured, it would be almost guaranteed that Farke would lose a large chunk of his squad, including Piroe.

However, there is also a possibility that Piroe goes even if promotion is achieved, and Leeds must aim to keep hold of the striker for one season in the Premier League.

Farke absolutely loves Piroe’s work-ethic and he’s been a clear reason for their success this season, so there is no reason why he can’t continue in that same vein with England’s elite.
