Leeds United are back in action as they embark on almost a mini-season in the eight-game race for automatic promotion, but an announcement has just shocked some Leeds fans.
The international break is over and full focus is now on the remaining eight games in the Championship starting with a home game against Swansea City at Elland Road on Saturday, with Leeds favourites.
The Whites remain top of the table but one win in four has left them looking over their shoulder, with Sheffield United only behind on goal difference and Burnley moving within two points of the leaders.
Ahead of Saturday’s game against Swansea at Elland Road, Leeds have announced that fans can pay for a run-out at Elland Road and the chance to play at the home of Leeds for the princely sum of £330.
Leeds fans stunned as chance to play at Elland Road announced
Leeds have announced that fans can pay to play at Elland Road on May 14, a move that may become a bit of a strange move if the Whites finish in the play-offs. Leeds of course, currently remain in first place.
Leeds’ last game is away at Plymouth on May 3, but if the Whites are unable to hold onto a place in the top two, then they will enter the play-offs. The final is scheduled for the end of the month, the 24th.
It means that the semi-finals could come in and around the 14th, though it is likely to fall afterwards. Leeds fans have responded in their drones, stunned at how much fans would have to pay to get a chance.
Another Leeds fan responded by saying, “that’s more than the club spent in the last transfer window”. Said with tongue in cheek, but it is an actual fact given Leeds did not sign anyone in the January market.
One Leeds fan felt it was so much that supporters should be entitled to receive a piece of the Elland Road turf as a souvenir. More fans responded by saying “wow, how much” and “£33, and we’ll talk.”
The announcement worried one fan, asking if Leeds are “skint” and needed to find a way of generating more cash. Another said “£330? Raphinha better be coming back”. Clearly, Leeds fans are not impressed.
Leeds United’s eight remaining games ahead of fan day out
Fingers crossed for Leeds fans, the play-offs won’t be required as The Whites look to secure promotion at the second attempt. Certainly, a win on Saturday will go a long way to appeasing Elland Road supporters.
The reaction to the post shows fans are jittery at the moment, nervous that their side will tail off as they did last season. The return from the break starts a busy period. Four games over the next fortnight.
Swansea first, followed by two away games against struggling Luton Town and then Middlesbrought at The Riverside. Leeds also face Preston, Oxford United, Stoke City, Bristol City and then Plymouth.
