If Leeds United are going to be able to improve all areas of the squad that require strengthening, then there will have to be a few bargain deals acquired this summer.
It has been reported that Leeds have a £150m transfer budget to spend this summer. Daniel Farke and new sporting director Adam Underwood have got to get the recruitment right to avoid relegation.
However, Leeds need a goalkeeper, a centre-back, a left-back and possible cover for Jayden Bogle, two midfielders, Manor Solomon or another winger, a better Brenden Aaronson and a proven centre-forward.
Suddenly, £150m doesn’t look like much. To sign genuine Premier League quality, it can cost £30m or more unless it is a loan or a player’s contract is running out – or in this case, there is a sub-£2m clause.

Leeds United want Millwall defender Japhet Tanganga
Proven in the Premier League with Tottenham, Japhet Tanganga was one of the best centre-backs at Championship level with Millwall last season. Leeds fans will remember he scored in a 1-0 loss at The Den.
Now, Give Me Sport say Leeds are battling their two promoted rivals Burnley and Sunderland to sign the Millwall defender. Interest is aplenty in Tanganga largely because of a release clause worth less than £2m.
The Whites need a centre-back given Max Wober is set to leave and Pascal Struijk has been injury prone. Tanganga may be that man, a player Jose Mourinho once said is “really good in the air” as per Sport Bible.
Which other centre-backs are Leeds United interested in?
What is evident in the players being linked with Leeds, is that the club are looking to learn from the mistakes of the summer in 2022. Leeds did not make a single signing with Premier League experience.
Leeds are among the clubs considering a £25m move for Joe Gomez, while Ipswich’s Ireland defender Dara O’Shea is also a player of interest. A reunion between Farke and Nico Elvedi is also on the cards.
Tanganga though, represents a player easily good enough for the Premier League and proven at that level. His form this season shows he is too good for the Championship and certainly, a huge bargain.
With Sam Byram also expected to leave, Leeds may require cover at right-back and Tanganga has played there in the past for Spurs. It seems like the perfect signing to fill a gap, but to also save some money.
