Leeds United will need Premier League-level players to compete in the top flight next season.
Daniel Farke will know this as his squad might do a brilliant job at Championship-level, but it all changes when the step-up is made.
The 49ers are looking at Premier League targets, as this is clearly the main goal of the upcoming transfer window.
With promotion almost secured for Leeds, the attention can soon turn to the market, with Farke’s side having the chance to achieve their season-long task on Easter Monday.
| Position | Team | Played MP | Won W | Drawn D | Lost L | For GF | Against GA | Diff GD | Points Pts |
| 1 | 42 | 25 | 13 | 4 | 82 | 29 | 53 | 88 | |
| 2 | 42 | 24 | 16 | 2 | 57 | 13 | 44 | 88 | |
| 3 | 42 | 26 | 7 | 9 | 57 | 33 | 24 | 83 |
With this considered, a major target is being looked at as it could be a sensational coup for the Whites.

Leeds United a ‘serious candidate’ for Sporting Lisbon’s Hidemasa Morita
It’s become apparent that the owners won’t be messing about this window as Paraag Marathe needs to achieve his pledge of being ‘aggressive’ with transfers.
This is hopefully the direction they take as RedBull have a ‘Premier League’ plan for Leeds in exciting times for Whites fans.
With this plan considered, a new name has emerged on Leeds’ radar in the form of Sporting Lisbon midfielder, Hidemasa Morita.
This is according to the Print Edition of Record (17/04/25), who suggest that, with Leeds almost securing their return to the top division, they are a ‘serious candidate’ to sign the defensive midfielder.
If they get promoted, the newspaper explains the English club will make a ‘concrete’ offer for the Japan international, however, a fee hasn’t been considered for Morita yet.
It’s clear that the 29-year-old is looking for a move, and this works for Leeds, but they will only sign the midfielder if promotion is secured.
What Ruben Amorim has said about Leeds target Morita
Judging by his affiliation with the Japan national team, this means Morita has played with Leeds’ very own Ao Tanaka.
Tanaka replaced Morita for Japan in the recent international break, coming off the bench, as there is a likelihood they will work together at club level very soon.
The midfielder has impressed over in Portugal and is seen as the ultimate midfielder in both defensive areas and attack.
| Morita’s statistics for Sporting in Liga Portugal (24/25) | |
| Games played | 19 |
| Goals/Assists | 2/3 |
| Pass accuracy % | 85.2% |
| Duels won % | 56.1% |
| Chances created | 17 |
As well as Tanaka someone who knows Morita well is former Sporting boss and now Man United manager Ruben Amorim.
Speaking on the midfielder last season, Amorim praised Morita for being ‘very complete’ to Sporting’s club media.
It certainly looks like an exciting prospect for Leeds in signing Morita, who has experience on the Champions League stage, as the 49ers aren’t messing about.
