Leeds United could be about to miss out on a key target, with the club identifying Igor Paixao as one of the differential attackers.
Survival in the Premier League for Leeds United could be built on the foundations of a stronger and more physically dominant team, but they also need match-winners in the final third.
That is why one of Leeds’ key targets has emerged as Igor Paixao. The Feyenoord ace is an exciting Brazilian winger, with Paixao winning Dutch Footballer of the Year in 2024/25.
It’s been reported previously that Leeds opened talks with Paixao over a month ago now but full Leeds approval of Paixao has since been given in recent days. However, the latest twist is not such good news.

Marseille close in on Leeds target Igor Paixao
In recent days it was stated that Marseille were unwilling to meet Paixao’s asking price, which is over £30 million. Prior to that, at one stage, it appeared Paixao might even green light Leeds’ interest after talks.
In the last few days, it’s been stated that Paixao is happy to leave Feyenoord for a new challenge this summer, while Paixao’s replacement has also been arranged at Feyenoord.
That was all fantastic progress, but Marseille’s interest has remained, with a deal now struck between the two clubs for him to make the switch to Ligue 1.
Santi Aouna states that an agreement has almost been reached between Marseille and Feyenoord for the transfer of Paixao. He claims it will be for around €35 million, including bonuses. Paixao will sign a contract until 2030 at the Stade Velodrome.
Fabrizio Romano’s update confirms similar information, with the transfer guru stating: “Olympique Marseille are close to getting Igor Paixao deal done as they improved their proposal to Feyenoord. The deal is now close to fee in excess of €30 million requested by the Dutch club.

Leeds’ stance on wingers this summer
Beren Cross believes Leeds have pitched to several wingers. The fortunate part about wide players is that Leeds have plenty of time this summer to source an upgrade.
Currently, their situation is that they have Willy Gnonto, Dan James, Largie Ramazani, and Jack Harrison. Many fans may well be concerned about that for a full season, but in the early few games? It would be more than enough.
Each one is a viable player at Premier League level, which is why Leeds have time on their side. The same cannot be said for a new goalkeeper, or striker, or perhaps even a No.10, however.
Cross explained: “Igor Paixao is another name which has emerged this week. Leeds are understood to have pitched to the Feyenoord winger’s representatives.
“Club sources maintain he is one of several wingers they have had such meetings about.”
Thus, there is every chance of Leeds making a swift move for an alternative winger this summer if that information is anything to go by.
