Leeds United hammer blow in pursuit of midfielder as Crysencio Summerville’s West Ham line up a bid

Leeds United are expected to try and make a signing or two before the January transfer window comes to an end, but The Whites have suffered a blow in pursuit of a midfielder.

Daniel Farke wants three new signings at Leeds United in the form of a centre-back, a no.10 and a new striker. After Monday’s draw at Burnley, Farke hinted a new signing was imminent at Elland Road.

Nothing has materialised, though players continued to be linked with a move to Leeds. Leeds are said to have made an enquiry to sign Newcastle United’s Matt Targett, while another Englishman has been linked.

Indeed, former Liverpool and Arsenal man Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is a target for Leeds. The 31-year-old is currently playing in Turkey with Besiktas, where he has managed just six appearances during 2024-25.

Oxlade-Chamberlain is likely to be keen on a return to England, and has entered the final 18 months of his contract with Besiktas. Given he was signed on a free from Liverpool, he is unlikely to cost much cash.

Turkish outlet Omedyam though, report that Leeds face competition from a quintet of Premier League clubs. Crysencio Summerville’s West Ham are leading the charge to sign the 35-time England midfielder.

The report says West Ham, Crystal Palace, Brentford, Nottingham Forest and Wolves are all ‘making bids’ to sign Oxlade-Chamberlain. A player that Leeds icon James Milner has raved about in the past.

But every player has his price and while Solskjaer wants to keep him, Oxlade-Chamberlain may want to go. It may force through a move especially, with such interest in the versatile Englishman at the moment.
