Brighton midfielder personally rejected Leeds United move this month

With just a few days left to go in the January transfer window, Leeds United are expected to delve into the market as they adopt their tried-and-trusted tactic of operating close to the deadline.

In the summer, Leeds fans were made to wait before the club confirmed deals for Largie Ramazani, Manor Solomon, Ao Tanaka and Isaac Schmidt with the latter duo arriving at Elland Road on the final day.

But it is not as if Leeds have been trying to bring players to the club. Mergim Berisha was a target before joining Augsburg while Emi Buendia looks set to complete a loan move to German giants Leverkusen.

Leeds are continuing to scour the market for new additions in the no.10 role but it appears one of those has passed them by, choosing to join a Premier League club on loan despite interest from The Whites.

Julio Enciso picked Ipswich Town loan over Leeds United move

A Paraguay international, £9.5m Brighton signing Julio Enciso was described as “amazing” by Jamie Redknapp as per The Mail following his barnstorming goal for The Seagulls in a 1-1 draw with Man City.

This month, Enciso has chosen to join Ipswich on loan after falling down the pecking order at Brighton. His lack of game time has not been aided by the arrival of Georginio Rutter from Leeds in the summer.

LeedsUnited.News wrote at the time of how Leeds had missed a trick with Enciso joining Ipswich. The Mail now reports that actually Leeds were interested in Enciso – but the Paraguayan chose to join Ipswich.

Julio Enciso would have been the perfect no.10 signing for Leeds

Something Leeds lack is the ability to score goals from long range. Ao Tanaka and Dan James have got a couple but when Leeds play against a low block, it often takes a moment of brilliant to change the tide.

Enciso is clearly capable of scoring from distance. It would have given Leeds another tool in the armoury, another way of winning games when sometimes The Whites are left frustrated in opening the door.

But of course, the lure of the Premier League and fighting in a relegation battle is even more tempting than it is to play in the Championship for players like Enciso these days. Perhaps he may remain a target.
