It is going to be a busy few days for Leeds United with the suggestion that the transfer team at Elland Road are now working hard to bring in some new signings before Monday’s deadline.
At the beginning of the month, Daniel Farke said he didn’t expect a busy January window. Last week Farke said he wanted three new signings and after the draw at Burnley, Farke hinted a new signing was close.
Leeds are lacking cover in the no.10 role, while they only have two fit strikers available. Pascal Struijk is a possibility to start at Cardiff after a hamstring injury, but there is a lack of cover in the middle of defence.

Leeds United now open talks to sign Newcastle United player
According to The Athletic, Leeds have opened talks to sign Newcastle United left-back Matty Targett. The £15m Newcastle signing has struggled for game time this season, with Lewis Hall first choice for the Toon.
Eddie Howe once described Targett as “outstanding” on Sky Sports, a player that has huge experience in both the Premier League and the Championship. He has entered the last 18 months of his Newcastle deal.
Left-back is not a position deemed entirely necessary at Elland Road right now. But, Junior Firpo is in the final six months of his contract as is Sam Byram, who has renowned for being largely injury prone.

Jesse Marsch wanted to sign Matty Targett while Leeds manager
Back in the summer of 2022, football website 90Min reported that Leeds wanted to sign Targett with Jesse Marsch at the helm. Nothing materialised and Targett has stayed at Newcastle after signing permanently.
Targett will surely be keen on a move given he has managed just two appearances for The Toon this term. One substitute appearance in the Premier League, and one start in the FA Cup for Howe’s Newcastle side.
Whether Leeds act upon their initial enquiry to sign Targett remains to be seen. It also suggests that Leeds are perhaps, planning for life without Firpo who is fit again after a lengthy hamstring problem.
