Leeds United have been forced to move on to other targets after suffering disappointment in their pursuit of Feyenoord’s Igor Paixao.

The talk at one stage regarding the deal is that Leeds United were leading the race, as Leeds were also willing to pay more than Marseille for the 25-year-old Feyenoord star.

Leeds led the Paixao race in pole position over the weekend, but the claims then came out that Marseille were making one last attempt to sign Paixao.

Despite some reports stating it was a “done deal” between Leeds and Feyenoord, it became obvious that Paixao always preferred a transfer to Marseille over Leeds.

Leeds supporters all want Dodi Lukebakio after Igor Paixao deal falls through

Following those initial reports, Fabrizio Romano then claimed full agreement had been found between Marseille and Feyenoord for the transfer of the Brazilian. In the end, they matched Leeds’ bid of around €35 million for Paixao.

Leeds need attackers, having been linked with Rodrigo Muniz, Dilane Bakwa, Bilal El Khannouss, and more lately. It appears fans have moved on already, with an alternative winger capable of scoring spectacular goals already in mind.

One posted on Twitter/X, stating: “Bring me Lukebakio, Burkardt, Or Luiz Henrique.”

The same name kept popping up, with another posting: “RW – Bakwa/Lukebakio AM – El Khanouss ST – Muniz #lufc”

A further response read: “Lukebakio, Saibri and Muniz pls”

Another Leeds fan added: “I think that Lukebakio would make a lot of sense and I’d be happy with him.”

Leeds could turn to Manor Solomon or Crysencio Summerville instead but Dodi Lukebakio would be an excellent addition.

The 27-year-old Sevilla forward was signed to the club in Victor Orta’s first summer and  Leeds should be looking at Lukebakio as a replacement for the output Solomon managed last season.

Dodi Lukebakio would rebalance Leeds’ attack with Willy Gnonto

The biggest winners at Leeds from Paixao falling through are all forward players, but perhaps the biggest winner is Willy Gnonto.

His ability to cut inside from out to in on the left is missed when he operates from the right-hand side. Gnonto would benefit from a signing like Lukebakio, too.

That’s because Lukebakio would rebalance Leeds’ attack. He is a left-footed right winger, which is something Leeds simply do not have currently.

Lukebakio would be a bigger signing than Jaka Bijol or Anton Stach. Not only does he have reliable output, but Lukebakio has the height, size, and athleticism as well.

That is required to be the kind of outlet for any team desperately needing to relieve pressure in a relegation scrap. The 27-year-old is in his prime years and would be an excellent addition out wide.

He is arguably Sevilla’s prized asset currently and Lukebakio would be perfect for Leeds’ starting lineup in 2025/26.
