Leeds United’s long-winded and patient pursuit of Feyenoord star Igor Paixao has come to an end, and not in the way those at Leeds were hoping. Paixao has agreed a move to Marseille.

Over the course of the last fortnight, Leeds and Marseille have gone head-to-head in the race for Brazilian wide man Igor Paixao. It comes after his 37 goals and assists for Feyenoord during the 2024-25 campaign.

Leeds made a £28m offer, but Marseille have now agreed a £30.3m deal with Feyenoord to sign Paixao. The need for a left-sided winger goes on, and here are three Brazilians that Leeds could now turn to.

Three Brazilian wingers Leeds could turn to after Paixao failure

Kevin – Shakhtar Donetsk

Bought for around £12m by the Ukrainian giants in January 2024, Shakhtar’s Player of the Season has now had a hand in 25 goals in 54 appearances. It saw Bologna make a £27m bid for Kevin earlier this window.

Still only 22, the former Palmeiras winger is still in the burgeoning beginning of his career and while there is plenty to work on, this is a player with huge potential and one already earning glances from Europe.

Pepe – FC Porto

While Paixao might have done it with Feyenoord, 28-year-old Pepe has done it in the Champions League. A two-time Brazil international, Pepe is incredibly experienced and has been at it for longer than Paixao.

An impressive 52 goals and assists with Gremio earned Pepe a move to Porto, where he has since played almost 200 games. Boasting a £65m exit clause, his deal ends in two years and will be available for less.

Tete – Panathinaikos

Amid the rumours of Jack Harrison’s move to Leicester in January 2023, Tete was linked with a move from Lyon to Leeds. But actually, after Harrison’s failed move to Leicester, Tete ended up at the King Power.

Still only 25, Tete would only score one goal in 14 for Leicester but this is a player with huge quality and is much more experienced these days after spells in Turkey, France, England, Ukraine and now Greece.

Whether he is one Leeds would turn to remains to be seen, but he is a player that has experienced the Premier League before. If Leeds want a Brazilian winger, then Tete is certainly one they may consider.
