So far in this January transfer window, there’s been two player exits at Leeds United in Joe Gelhardt and Charlie Crew, both leaving on loan. And we could see a third before a new face arrives at Elland Road.
Two weeks left of the January transfer window and Leeds United are yet to make their move for any of their reported targets, of which there are plenty.
Before the window had even opened, Leeds United were linked with 19 players. But so far, Daniel Farke’s side have seemingly been very quiet, which is what was largely expected of the Whites.
But there’s always room for improvement. We saw that in Leeds’ opening two Championship fixtures of 2025 – back-to-back draws against Blackburn Rovers and Hull City – although Leeds beat Sheffield Wednesday 3-0 last time out.
Farke though seems content with his squad. And ahead of what could be a very busy summer at Elland Road, Farke will be keen to clear the decks and move on anyone who may not be with the club long-term. One such player is Junior Firpo.

Junior Firpo to Real Betis transfer update shared
Firpo, 28, sees his Leeds United contract expire at the end of the 2024/25 season, and it’s looking highly unlikely that the 49ers will extend the stay of the former Barcelona full-back who’s currently injured.
Earlier in the season, Real Betis were linked with Firpo who’s also had interest from the likes of Besiktas. But it’s Betis who are linked again, with an emerging report from Spanish outfit ABC saying that Betis want Firpo now or in the summer.
Firpo began his career with Betis. When the La Liga club were previously linked with Firpo, it was claimed that Firpo’s team were laying the groundwork for a move to Betis, hinting that he’s keen to leave West Yorkshire and possibly keen to return to Spain.

Will Junior Firpo ever play for Leeds United again?
Firpo played the final stages of the FA Cup game against Harrogate Town earlier in January, then being an unused substitute for the Championship clash against Sheffield Wednesday after returning from a hamstring injury.
So it looks like there’s every chance Firpo could play for Leeds again, unless Betis make their move now, and do so with a show of strength.
Leeds could be willing to let Firpo leave on the cheap so that they can get his wages off the books sooner rather than at the end of the season, but Betis could simply wait till the summer and sign him for free.
Firpo remains a player with quality and he could even end up playing a key role in the second half of the season. His future remains very uncertain, though.
