Sitting pretty at the top of the Championship table are Leeds United after their 3-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday afternoon as emotions ran high during the Yorkshire derby.
A comfortable-enough win saw Manor Solomon open the scoring after just three minutes. Leeds fans had to wait until another 85 minutes of action before seeing Leeds score again, through sub Largie Ramazani.
Ramazani’s excellent cameo saw him volley an effort at goal for Leeds’ third, only for Ao Tanaka to use both his footballing intelligence and technical ability backheel the ball into the net to round off the win.
A 16th league win of the season in their 27th game, as Leeds also clocked up a 17th clean sheet which will have come as a relief to Illan Meslier. But it was not such good news for Wednesday skipper Barry Bannan.

Barry Bannan enraged by Leeds United star Brenden Aaronson
In the second half, Leeds were pushing for a second while trying to keep the backdoor closed. Ever the livewire, Brenden Aaronson was trying in vain to make things happen and went over in the penalty area.
A shoulder charge from Michael Ihiekwe sent Aaronson sprawling in the box, which the referee waved away. But it provoked an angry response from Wednesday captain Bannan, who felt Aaronson had dived.
The YEP’s Graham Smyth reported: “Angry Barry Bannon angrily urges Aaronson to get up after brutal shoulder-to-shoulder challenge. Not sure Aaronson had any say whatsoever in where he ended up.”
Brenden Aaronson struggles to shine in Leeds win on Sunday
Of the 11 players that started for Leeds, Aaronson came away with the worst FotMob rating of the lot. Still, a decent score of 6.9 that saw him rate higher than any other Sheffield Wednesday player, though.
Brenden Aaronson’s stats for Leeds vs Sheff Wed:
- 90 minutes played, 6.9 FotMob rating (worst of all Leeds starting players)
- Two successful dribbles, one touch in opposition box
- 38 touches, 24 completed passes, four misplaced (86%)
- Five duels won, six lost. Fouled three times, two fouls committed
Aaronson continues to be the weak link in this side, even if he shines in some games like the win over Derby County. However, he will continue to start while Leeds remain cautious in the January window.
