Italian outfit Fiorentina have a cunning plan in place as they eye up a January transfer for a Leeds United mainstay.

There seems to be growing interest in Leeds United’s players ahead of the January transfer window, with interest coming from some of Europe’s top teams as well.

The likes of Junior Firpo has been linked with Besiktas, though he looks unlikely to leave right now given his injury.

And elsewhere, Pascal Struijk is being linked with Tottenham Hotspur who could yet splash £25million on the Dutchman.

Illan Meslier is another linked with a Premier League move. It’s claimed that Arsenal and Manchester United are interested in Meslier, who earned praised for his performance against Stoke City in Leeds’ 2-0 win on Boxing Day.

Meslier is out of contract in 2026. The Frenchman has also had links to Rennes in the build up to January, but now there’s interest coming from Italy.

Fiorentina join race for Illan Meslier, Arsenal and Manchester United updates

An emerging report from TEAMtalk has revealed the latest on Meslier’s future at Elland Road.

They state that both Arsenal and Manchester United currently have no plans to sign a new no.1 during the January transfer window, but that both could be in the market for a no.2 come the summer of 2025.

It’s also revealed that Serie A outfit Fiorentina are interested in Meslier. They signed David de Gea earlier in the 2024/25 season but TEAMtalk say they could give the starting berth to a new, younger goalkeeper, such as Meslier, which may prove very tempting.

So far this season, Meslier has 13 clean sheets in 23 Championship outings for Leeds, who play away at Derby County on Sunday.

Daniel Farke says Illan Meslier has stepped up at Leeds United this season

It’s no secret that the 24-year-old Meslier has had his critics during his time at Elland Road, and even so this season.

But Farke says Meslier has taken a leading role at Leeds United, both on and off the pitch, highlighting his importance and his continued development in the side.

Farke said earlier in the campaign: “I have to say how well Illan has done as a person. There’s no coincidence that he has a leading role in our group. Karl [Darlow] has earned a spot in the Wales squad, it’s no coincidence.

“But a good mood in the group. Each one of my goalkeeper wants to show that he is the best.”

A move to a top flight club in January could be ideal for Meslier. But he also has the chance to play Premier League football with Leeds against next season, so he’s got a tough decision to weigh up.
