Leeds United boss Daniel Farke will be sweating over the fitness of two of his players ahead of the game against Derby County on Sunday.

Leeds United go into the next round of fixtures as the Championship leaders, after their commanding 2-0 win against Stoke City on Boxing Day.

The Whites capitalised after Sheffield United lost 2-0 at home to Burnley. Joel Piroe has earned praise for scoring both goals in the win at the bet365 Stadium.

Elsewhere, Leeds United fans sung their praises of Ethan Ampadu as he gets back to full fitness following a lengthy injury lay-off.

The Welsh international started in the midfield alongside Joe Rothwell and completed the full 90 minutes: Ampadu has started and finished the last two games for Leeds now.

Speaking ahead of the Derby County game though, Farke has hinted that he could change his midfield selection with Ao Tanaka rested against Stoke City.

And Farke may need to change his midfield against Derby County with Leeds United coming out of their game against Stoke with a couple of fresh injury worries.

Ethan Ampadu and Sam Byram being ‘monitored’ ahead of Derby County vs Leeds United

Ampadu was battling away against Stoke City. And having only just returned from a quite significant injury, Farke may be cautious of over-playing Ampadu during this hectic run of fixtures.

Elsewhere, full-back Sam Byram looked as though he picked up a little knock in the game against Stoke, with the 31-year-old also completing the 90 minutes on Boxing Day.

Journalist Adam Pope revealed on X: “Byram & Ampadu need to be monitored ahead of Derby. No major injuries tonight.”

When are Max Wober and Junior Firpo back for Leeds United?

Possible injuries to both Byram and Ampadu will be very worrying for Leeds; Ampadu especially as he’s just returned to action.

But it seems like both are just being monitored because of the congested fixture list during this time of year.

Still, for Farke, Byram in particular isn’t easily replaced with both Max Wober and Junior Firpo sidelined right now.

Wober seems to be nearing a return to action with his injury not thought to be serious, whilst Firpo isn’t expected to return until the New Year after suffering a serious hamstring injury at the start of December.

Tanaka can easily replace Ampadu in the midfield should Farke choose to rest the former Chelsea man.
