Ipswich Town signed Kalvin Phillips on loan during the summer transfer window, amid rumours that Leeds United wanted him back at Elland Road. Now, the Tractor Boys could snatch another transfer target from Daniel Farke’s side.
Kalvin Phillips has struggled at Ipswich Town so far this season, following his loan move to Portman Road from Manchester City during the summer transfer window.
There were rumours that Leeds wanted to re-sign Phillips but the 29-year-old later hinted that he preferred to stay in the Premier League, with Leeds eventually losing the Championship play-off final to Southampton.
But after Leeds drew 1-1 with Blackburn Rovers on New Year’s Day, Daniel Farke’s side remain at the top of the Championship table, with a game away at Hull City on the agenda for Saturday afternoon.
Ahead of then, there’s been plenty of rumours linking players with moves to Elland Road, now that the January transfer window is open for business. One such player is Ben Godfrey.

Leeds United handed Ben Godfrey blow with Ipswich Town ‘in talks’
Leeds United have been linked with Godfrey at Atalanta, where the centre-back has featured just once in the Serie A following his £10million summer move from Everton. It seems clear that Farke wants a new centre-back signing in January with Godfrey one of many linked.
Though a move for Godfrey has seemed less and less likely. It was recently revealed that Spurs have shown the most interest in Godfrey, but now it’s been revealed that Ipswich Town are in talks to sign Godfrey on loan from Atalanta.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed on X: “Ipswich Town are in talks to sign Ben Godfrey on loan from Atalanta!
“Negotiations underway for the centre back who’s available on the market for this transfer window.”

Possible reason why Leeds United have missed out on Ben Godfrey
Playing Premier League football over Championship football seems like the obvious reason. But journalist Alex Crook has maybe dropped a bigger hint as to why Godfrey prefers Ipswich Town.
The talkSPORT journalist posted on X stating that eight clubs wanted Godfrey, but that he wants to work with Tractor Boys manager Kieran McKenna.
Whilst Farke is a decorated and respected Championship boss, McKenna’s new and exciting ways seem to have captured the attentions of a lot of players, Phillips being one, with the former Leeds man speaking fondly of him upon his move to Portman Road in the summer.
Godfrey to Leeds United certainly looks dead in the water as things stand.
